Why couldn't HelperHat learn from my website?

Updated AI Knowledge & Answers

Answer

When you see Couldn't Learn from This Website or Couldn't Relearn This Website, HelperHat couldn't open your website or read its pages. It needs to load a normal public page at the address you entered, the same way a visitor's browser would.

The most common reasons are:

  • The address is wrong or the website is down. A typo, an expired domain, a server error, or a page that doesn't respond within about 15 seconds stops HelperHat before it can learn anything.
  • A firewall or bot protection turned HelperHat away. Services such as Cloudflare can show a security check, an access denied page, or a too many requests error to automated visitors, and HelperHat can't complete those checks.
  • The website needs a login or password. HelperHat can't sign in, so staging sites, password-protected sites, and members-only areas can't be learned.
  • The address only works on a private network. Addresses such as localhost or an internal company address can't be reached from the internet.
  • The website only works over http. When you enter an address without http:// or https://, HelperHat uses https://. If your website has no secure version, enter the full address starting with http://.
  • The website is very slow. HelperHat gives each page about 30 seconds to load, and it stops early when many pages are slow or fail.

Before you try again:

  • Open your website in a private browser window while signed out, and copy the exact address from the address bar into HelperHat.
  • If you use Cloudflare or another firewall, check its security events for blocked visits at the time you tried. Lower the bot protection or security level, or pause it while HelperHat learns, then turn it back on. HelperHat visits like a regular Chrome browser from cloud servers whose addresses change, so allowing a user agent or a fixed IP address won't help.
  • Make your main pages public, such as your homepage, contact, hours, pricing, services, and help pages.
  • If your website is still being built or is behind a password, wait until it is live.

To try again during setup, tap Continue on the website step. To change your website later, open the Account Page, tap Update Business Website, check the address, and tap Done. To relearn the website you already saved, go to the Settings Page and tap Relearn Website Content.

HelperHat needs to open your website before setup can continue. After setup, you can also upload knowledge files such as PDF, DOCX, or XLSX from Update or Upload Files on the Settings Page to cover information your website doesn't show. If your website still can't be learned, email us and include its address.
